On 29th April Tadcaster celebrated the Tour de Yorkshire! As part of this event, the Tadcaster and Villages Community Engagement Forum (CEF) held a 'Give it a Go Event', for local community organisations to promote their work and engage with the general public. SDV had a stand offering people of all ages the opportunity to take part in 'Blind Sculpting'.
We are currently working withHull East Riding Institute for the Blind on a sculpture project for the Hull City of Culture Year. Therefore we felt it would be a great example of our work and to raise awareness of sight loss, by encouraging people to make sculptures using dough, whilst blindfolded. More than 100 people took part! We also had a multi sensory game, testing the other senses!
A secret judging panel from the CEF marked our stand and awarded it with first prize, as the most interactive and innovative stand - with a £1,000 prize to go towards the work of SDV. It was a fantastic day.
On Friday 28th April we held a charity Race Night at Brayton Bowling Club. This was a fantastic evening and a huge success. The event raised over £1,000 and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make it such a huge success.
